Adam Film World: "The most widely known male pornstar, Holmes' reputation was built on his extremely large organ that was touted as 14 1/2 inches long. This was about as true as the many stories and myths that were woven about him by himself and others during his checkered career. He began in films in the late 1960's, became known as Johnny Wadd and used that name to play a hardboiled porn detective. He dabbled in drugs and got himself caught up in a scandalous drug-related murder case. He returned to adult movies to produce as well as act, forming his own video company. Ill health plagued "The King" (as he was fondly known in X-rated circles), but not until his death on March 13, 1988, was it disclosed that his demise was from AIDS-related causes. Rather than speculate on the reasons why, we choose to remember his best performances."
